Overcoming Duality and Conflicts with Others

In this article I am going to discuss Master More’s words: « You see, if you are trying to prove other people wrong, you cannot be more, for you are seeking to attain something in this world and being more means reaching beyond this world».[1]
Reversing the «Us Versus Them» Mentality
We can say, as a general perspective, that all conflicts around the world, be it in personal matters, social or even between nations, are only possible through the duality consciousness.
Therefore, we could say that if we can go beyond the duality consciousness in every matter, we will overcome all conflicts, and this would be true. However, things are not that simple.
Why? Because we are used to identifying with our sense of separation since creating the separate- self long ago. Since then, we have seen everything through the perspective of this self.
It is 'me' and I am always opposed to 'others'. I say 'always' because, even when we relate to a person, we never break this distance.
If you don’t believe me, I will give you a few examples: we always set conditions when we give anything to others. Whether it is love, friendship or whatever it is that makes us relate to a certain person, we always expect something in return.
It's a trade: I give something, and in return I receive something. If these rules aren’t met, we get angry, feeling that the other person doesn’t ‘deserve’ what we are giving.
What I am saying is that, with the possible exception of the love of a mother for her child – and I say 'possible' because it doesn't work like that for everyone – most human beings are not willing to give anything without expecting something in return.
This return can be very subtle, like the sense of well-being a person feels when they help another being in some way.
For some people, at least, if they didn’t experience the reward of feeling good and being a good person, perhaps they would not perform the action towards others.
Philosophers call this 'egoism', meaning 'self-focus'. This term does not necessarily imply a value judgement or accuse anyone; it simply describes what most people's sense of identity is based on.
This is the result of entering a permanent state of duality. Our Masters taught us that duality is a necessary capability of the mind operating in any world of form.
It is necessary to experiment with freedom so that each newly created being can experience whatever it wants before beginning its journey in the spiritual realm.
However, most people on Earth took this temporary sense of identity created by the mind as definitive.
Consequently, they delved deeper into duality, forgetting that it was merely an experiment, and became trapped in it.
The Ascended Masters Teachings and the Recovery of the spiritual identity
The Ascended Masters working with earth conceived the »Path of the Seven Veils» to help us awaken from the sense of identity focused on self, the separate self .
The separate- self imprisons us in the material world and in the illusions of the focus on self.
These illusions make us see an antagonism between ourselves and others, causing us to constantly measure what we give and what we receive.
Since this antagonism cannot be overcome from a dualistic sense of identity, there is only one way to get out of it:
to see the separate self as the illusion that it is — an image created by ourselves within a mental box, closed off from connection with all life — and to recognise that we are not this self.
When we can do this- we must pass the 96th level initiation first- we will be able, for the first time, to relate to others beings from the perspective of the Christ mind:
This perspective unites us; it does not seek to prove itself right in all matters, but rather to establish a connection with others that helps them grow.
When we help others to grow, we grow too. Do you know why? Because, in reality, there is no separation between us and others; the separation is created in the mind as an illusion of the separate self.
When we let others 'win', we also inevitably win for the same reason.
However, this cannot be done artificially: we cannot simply decide, 'OK, whenever a conflict emerges between me and someone else, I will let them win'.
We really need to understand why it is better for us and the other person if we overcome the conflict. It is not the logical mind that resolves conflict.
In fact, the logical mind can only perceive conflict and opposition. It is necessary to strive for a connection to the mind of Christ so that we can experience unity with others.
But once this is accomplished, the achievement is worthwhile in itself. It is beyond words; it can only be experienced.
Although it is still an experience of the mind, it is not the separate self that experiences it; it is our Christ mind — the 'conscious you' — that experiences it.
Only the Christ mind can help us transcend conflict and grow.
