Challenges for a Spiritual Student – the Tendency to go into Denial

denying reality

In this article, I will address one of the challenges faced by spiritual students: the tendency to go into denial. A second article will follow, in which I will address another challenge: the tendency to feel guilty and condemn oneself.

I am following the Maha Chohan’s teachings[1] and his words: « (…) what always happens is this: there are some spiritual students who will see this [the characteristics of death consciousness] but who will immediately go into denial about it. And this will block their progress. » [2]

I will explain in detail, what is in discussion.

The Tendency to go into Denial

Many spiritual students recognise that there are elements of the consciousness of death within them when they begin to study how it is spread on Earth. Often, they discover that they may have been the «doers« of this kind of consciousness and oppressed others.

However, they are not yet ready to take responsibility for their past actions, even though they have transformed themselves and are no longer the same person they were then.

As the ascended Masters have told us many times, when they incarnated on Earth, they too submitted to this consciousness and fell into duality for a time.

This is why they can understand us so well and help us: they experienced it and managed to escape that consciousness. By abandoning duality consciousness, they demonstrated that 'what one can do, all can do'.

But humankind is shaped by cultural beliefs, some of which are related to the concept of 'human nature'. The idea of duality has long divided people into two groups: the good and the bad. Many  believe that some people are born with an evil nature.

This has been a long-standing topic of discussion among philosophers since the time of the Greek philosophers, and the concept was further developed through the interpretations of the so-called 'saints' recognised by Christian churches, who used the opposing concepts of 'from God' or 'from the devil'.

So, naturally, when people awaken and recognise some of the traits typical of duality or death consciousness within themselves, they tend to deny them.

This continues until the person grows in Christ consciousness and begins to abandon the structures of duality consciousness, and  becomes neutral.

Make no mistake: all beings on earth have been caught up in the mindset of death consciousness. We have been living on this planet for many lifetimes, and, for a long time, the Earth has been in a general state of duality.

The question now is how to escape this kind of consciousness and become neutral instead of always judging through dualistic thinking. The Masters have been telling us this all the time:

There is only one way: to become aware that we have these traits, even when we are at higher levels of consciousness. We must accept this without judging or condemning ourselves; look inside; and strive to shift our awareness by continually growing to a higher state of consciousness.

At a certain point, we will have enough Christ discernment to simply accept that duality consciousness is an optional choice for beings in the world of form for a time. As the choice to abandon this consciousness is also a better choice that we can take when we are ready to follow the self-mastery path.
